I was told to get a copy of divorce papers from 1974 I would need to sit in the archieve in the basment of Pretoria court and search for the case number, then once I found that I would need to apply for the documents which will take anything from 6 month to 2 years to get a copy of the divorce agreement which the court required. I was told by Johan Louw the owner of this company, in Spetember 2013, that at a cost of R870- which was payable up front they would obtain the paper for me with about 2 weeks. We were all happy with cost to avoid the tedious task on hand and speed up the process. I spoke to these people on the phone and a few times via e-mail and twice via a phone call. http://www.divorcerecordspapersdocuments.co.za/ I deposited an estate cheque into his account at Nedbank Alberton Branch 190 242; Cheque Acc Nr: 1902 185021 for the amount in September.


Since November I have tried to contact them to no avail.

On 16th January 2014 I decided to phone the High Court and ask them how to go about get these documents myself as I was now prepared to face this tedious task.

This is what followed.

I phoned the High court and they transfer my call to somebody who asked if I had the case number and when I gave the year she said “Sorry, you need to phone National Archives because the date is very old.” She told me where they were and gave me the number.

I phoned National Archives and they transferred my call to a lady who asked me what was Mom’s maiden name…..I held on … she asked me what was Dad’s surname….she asked if my Mom was (Mom\'s name)and (Dad\'s name), I said yes…..she said we have the document when would like to come and get copies? I said now.

I went through to Pretoria and she had the file waiting for me, I looked through the whole divorce file, told her what I want copied and paid R1.53 a copy total expense R12.24.

The 2 telephone calls took me less than 10 minutes, they were so proficient and looking through the file and receiving the copies took me about 20 minutes.
