1 |  +13 Gumtree Advert - Furniture for sale I advertised furniture for sale on Gumtree. This person (Mary) contacted me via the mobile number of 0477751493 and said Sorry... your furniture still available for sale ? please reply to this email. colemary110@outlook.com.
I sent an email back saying yes the furniture is still available.

Received the following as a response to our Gumtree ad selling a Canon camera. First we got a text asking us to email "jessicarudd130@gmail.com" about the item. After doing that, we received the following:
Thanks for your swift response. Have gone through your advert on Gumtree and I'm well pleased with all you've stated.In regards to the price it sounds okay.Happy to proceed with the purchase..i want it sent to my cousin Abroad as a surprise gift through EMS Express (Australia International Post Express) I estimated the shipping cost which is about $150 to ship it over to my cousin. I won't be able to come for check up due to the nature of my work,I'm an oceanographer presently working off shore at the moment.Have tried calling but the network so bad for weeks now.Regarding payment method,If you have paypal account, you can send me your paypal email address,or alternatively send me your bank details,my merchant paypal account can transfer to any of both account without delay.

Sent a text with no phone number and asking to contact via e-mail. After contact replied with this message:
"Thanks for the reply, Actually i am buying it for my cousin as a surprise graduation gift and i will be responsible for the shipping charges via AUSPOST EMS to her address so that would not be a problem at all which means i will pay $100 AUD for the delivery charges. Let me know your final asking price of it and we can go from there and more importantly,I will like to pay you with paypal because its very easy,fast and secure to transfer money.. and if you don't have an account with PayPal you can easily set up an one by visiting www.paypal.com.au make any error on the Payment and to make everything okay with the both parties.

Thought it was strange and appears that the same text has been copied and pasted. Most likely sending through a fake paypal invoice saying money will clear after tracking number has been given.

So, as I was looking up how to send a package overseas, I came across a whirlpool forum and then this forum. In the email, as you can see, it is a copy and paste of a previous email someone has received, the only difference being the country it's being sent to. I am so glad I found this out before trying to send it

Selling a Dell laptop via Gumtree, and was sent an SMS by 'Diana' without a contact number listed. The name showed up only as 'Sayah' when the text was sent. Very peculiar. They wanted me to e-mail them information regarding the laptop, and my final price. I did so, and I received the typical copy & paste "I am buying as a gift for my - I will pay $100 for delivery charges" etc. Gumtree scam.

Then got a dodgy email which looked like it was paypal, but had contact email address of "reviewsinstantcash@fastservice.com"
Exact same address as other people in this thread. I wonder how many cameras the "cousin" has received!
No money ever received, and when I said I wasn't going to send anything until I could see the activity in my paypal account (as opposed to an email) haven't heard back.

I had advertised a camera for sale on gumtree and was contacted via sms for the condition and lowest price, I was asked to respond via email as listed above. Received email below in response to mine and thought I would check into it as it sounded fake.

A few hours after this I was contacted by Katty Moore - same deal - sms contact initially asking to email back to the supplied email address (also gmail). This was then the response back to my email -

"Katty" contacted me via sms to my mobile in response to my gumtree ad. Her phone number came through as unlisted/inaccessible but the words "Gumtree Ad" showed up as the person's name as if I had entered that in my address book, instead of her phone number. Very strange.
She requested to use email as contact "katty332m@gmail.com"
Her story and request both sounded suspicious given what I was selling, so I ran a search and found this. Most likely she would be seeking to abuse someone's bank account or paypal account, hack in and buy under their name, scam to arrange you owing her money, or steal from your bank account.

This email is similar to another one that I received from "Stella Williams" who is also listed on this site as a scam (trying to buy furniture, bikes, cars etc).

I advertised furniture on gumtree.com.au and received the following sms "hi is ur furniture still for sale?pls advice on your price with present condition and email me (kaitemoore332@gmail.com) for quick reply" which was almost identical to another sms I received from "Stella Williams" (also a scammer). In both cases the sms did not have a phone number just the name of the person and I was unable to retrieve a number from my phone's log.
