1 |  +4 Craig's list, Gerry Wollam This man named, Gerry Wollam, contacted me saying he was in Magna, UT and wanted to by my flatbed trailer listed on Craig\'s list. He sent me a check for $3890, way over the selling price saying it was for shipping charges and he was going to have 4 other items picked up as well. I asked him if he wanted more info on trailer, he said sure, so I sent it, but he was never really interested in more info. Then, midway thru our text message conversation he switched telephone numbers. I got the check via UPS express mail from someplace in NYC, the check was written on an HSBC bank from a company out of NYC. I did not check him on Google, should have, would have saved me some time. He told me to send shipping money to Diana Thacker, 1130 Academy Cir, Dandridge, TN 37725 via Western Union quick collect, I said I would do that when the check cleared my bank, called the bank today and they said the check was a fraud. I sent him a text back to send me a cashier\'s check if he still wanted the sale. I am sure that is the last I will hear from him. |

I placed an ad on Craigslist selling a very rare 4 3/8 Angustiden sharks tooth for $1,999.00 .A person by the name Gerry Wollam contacted me via text, he would never call . . . Or answer a call . He changed phone numbers 1-571-409-6131 the latest number is 1-801-413-3407. This is active as of 1/6/14. I am expecting a check in a couple days. What should I do ? He is sending my asking price , plus a pick up fee to be given to the person picking up this package, WHAT SHOULD I DO ? ? ? ? Mail fraud is a FED offense .

I placed an ad on Craigslist and same thing, received a text advising he would send a bank check. I've received the bank check within a day of only texting Gerry Wollam who sent a check for well over my asking price for the motorcycle. I was told by Gerry that there would be extra funds for other instate items that were to be picked up but luckily I did a Google search of his name and this Scam Tip-off was listed. The numbers Gerry contacted me from were 435-554-8418 and 435-554-8479

I received the first text from Gerry Wollam ,asking if I still have my motorcycle for sale .
the following text said : My name is Gerry Wollam am from Magna , Utah , I'm okay with the present condition has started in the advert and the asking price , due to the long distance the easiest way for me to make the payment is through a bank check , I'll wait till your bank verify and clears the check before we proceed with the shipment and I will also handle the pickup and delivery when the check cleared .
We send him a replay saying that we'll prefer dealing with local buyers (because it sounded too good to be truth) and he send back a text saying :
I would have love to come over cash , it's because of the long distant and I'm a busy person due to the nature of my work , I understand that there are many scams going on online , but to keep you rest assured about the payment , I will wait for your bank to verify and clear the check before we proceed with the pickup, so let me know if you really want to sell it to me.
and also got another text from a 614-859-0379 and 708-872-7125 they all look the same
so that's the reason I look it up (If it sounds to good to be truth probably is )

5/30/2013 Same scam. Within 30 minutes of placing an ad on craigs list, I had a full price offer from Gerry Wollam, Magna, Utah. This is for a boat dock - probably weighs a ton. Anyway, he says he will send a bank check via UPS, and arrange to pick it up. A day later he tells me that the check is made out for more than the asking price (to include the shipping), and that I will need to pay the shipper directly. ie: Send a check from my bank account on to some third party. I read the above post before I went any further. Too bad some people mess with a great service like Craigs List.
