1 |  +2 UK Gumtree Scam - Purporting to buy an advertised item. I got an email like this for an ad placed on UK Gumtree:
Hello, Thanks for mailing back,am ok with the price and the condition,i work with New Zealand Oil and Gas (NZOG) and we are presently offshore in New Zealand Taranaki Basin on kupe project.We do not have access to phone at the moment 15days off and 15days on and that\'s why I contacted you with internet messaging facility.Regarding the payment,i will be paying you through PayPal,please get back to me with your paypal details so i can process the payment,you can alternatively send your bank acct number if you have no PayPal acct.I have also contacted my courier who will come for pick up and deliver it to my place in Darwin after the whole fund has been cleared into your acct. -

Scammer sends a message interested in gumtree item saying they are interested it and want to buy it for their daughter as a wedding present. However they say they are disabled and therefore cannot view the item. They will then ask for it to be reserved for them and will send a fake PayPal email saying that funds have been sent. However it will get stuck in your junk folder and will also say that they have added an additional amount of money so that it can be used to pay the courier and Western Union transfer fee. This is the scam as they expect you to pay the courier fee to enable the release of funds into your PayPal account. This is not how PayPal works!!! Any pending funds will always be shown on your PayPal incoming and outgoing.

Daughter who is getting married and I am ready to pay your full asking price, I have read through the advert and I'm totally satisfied with it and I will be glad if you can get back to me with some pics if available, sadly I won't be able to come for the inspection and pick up due to my disabilities, I loss my hearing and being on a wheelchair but I have a courier agent that will help me to pick it up at your preferred location.Regarding the payment I can only pay via PayPal at the moment and I will be responsible for all the PayPal fee/charges on this transaction kindly get back to me with your PayPal email and the pick up location so that I can inform the courier agent about it now?

SECOND EMAIL
I have just completed the payment to your PayPal account which is on hold by PayPal I expected paypal to have notified you to this effect.check your mail folders (Inbox,spam and junk mail) of your PayPal email. I had a little problem with the agent they said they can only schedule the pick up date and time after they receive their pick up fee in their headquarter office via western union transfer, but due to my disabilities now I'm unable to get to a outlet to send it. l sent £800 GBP in all. l added £300 but £270 will be sent to my agent Headquarter in China through western union at post office or online at www.westernunion.co.uk ,the extra £30 is to cover the western union fee. Paypal said they will not release the fund until you email them the western union details for verification,and also to enable my pick up agent to come for pick up and inspection.Here is the agent's details where the money will be sent.

This person pretends to be a disabled lady interested in buying your items from gumtree. Requests to pay via pay pal which is fine but the emails lead on to depositing money to the western union out of your own pocket! They also send a fake email confirmation from pay pal to say money has been put into your bank.
