Auction/eBay Scam - Gumtree
|Name||John Dean ⇒|
|Email Addressfirstname.lastname@example.org ⇒|
|Telephone||Gumtree SMS ⇒ Reverse Phone Lookup (by Spokeo|
I received a sms message on my mobile phone from Gumtree informing me that a "John Dean will like to know if your listed car is still on for sale if yes kindly get back to him on (jdean8459.gmail.com) with final price." I checked on to my Gumtree site to see if there were any messages left by him and found there were no messages of this kind. I emailed John Dean and he responded with payment information. I was somewhat suspicious of someone who is interested in my old car and who was willing to freight a car and add $300 to my asking price without even test driving it. This prompted me to conduct a search of who this "John Dean" was and found on Scamdex, someone has had the same experience from the same name, different email address but the very same message. Be on the lookout. If you are advertising any goods for sale, anyone offering you money too quickly without even wanting to check out the product but asking for you bank account details too quickly, then chances are it is a scam. I am so glad I checked first. Someone else had the same message and reported it as scam. That has saved me a lot of heartache as well as money.
