basically a letter claiming to represent the estate of a relative that has past away without a will and through checks on the last name a possible relative has come up and an offer to assist in claiming 2.8 million dollars (US). lots of red flags this is a scam, spelling mistakes, grammer errors, different fonts in letter used, different sizes of writing (large to small)
Follow Ups/Extra Information. Most recent is listed first.
The heading says it is a private and personal letter. These are the first two paragraphs from the letter “I am a financial consultant and an auditor by profession; I work for one of the offshore financial institutions in a foreign country, I am a Canadian and also sending this letter to you from Canada. I am aware that this letter has come to you as a surprise. As we have not met before, or had any business transactions in the past. Nevertheless, I has contacted you with genuine intentions and you will never regret it. I got your contact information when going through an old file of my deceased client by the name of "USES MY REAL NAME", a United States citizen, he passed away a few years ago.” It continues on for a full page. There are several typos throughout the letter, and more than a few assurances that this is all legit. He offers to make me the beneficiary of millions of dollars because I bear the same name as the deceased and he believes i am a distant relative. The best part of the scam is that he says “Don't mail any documents for security reasons. All documents or letters must be returned by fax or email attachment. You don’t have to worry about anything because this transaction will be processed legally and protect you from any infraction of the law.” Makes sense to me. The last thing I will mention is that it appears to have been sent as a bulk mailer from Canada. ( I can’t 100% verify this) But there is no regular stamp, it is an inked, postage paid stamp.

A letter dated 08 Dec 2017 claiming to represent the estate of a relative/someone with the same surname as me who died intestate. $2.8 million USD to be claimed. Poor grammar, spelling and formatting are a give-away. Also, the mass mailing seems to be targeting the Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody suburbs east of Vancouver, BC.
