I advertised a car on gumtree.com.au and received the same email as below reports from a 'helvis datford' - follow up emails trying to get me to wire $950 via Western Union. Definitely scam so avoid replying to any of these emails. Other emails just asking 'what your best price/current price' also - so there is some fraudulent activity out there. Best to confirm exact buyer location and phone numbers, call them, get them to call you, confirm in other ways identify before even discussing the sale transaction or revealing any details.

I put an ad in the Gumtree to sell my two vans. He email me with the email above and he also email from firstname.lastname@example.org. He asked for a deal and also my bank details.... Because I'm a bit familiar with scam, I asked him for his country and his address. he gave me an address in Darwin and a Australian Driver licence Number. He kept asking me for any details for his payment. I end up gave him an old bank account of my sister which there is no money in it.....lol. Sad Guy wrote be back that he will let me know when the payment comes in....Be aware of those two emails.

Hi, I am currently selling my car through Gumtree website, Australia. I have got a similar type of emails from someone using the email addresses email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org. He approached me by sending me a text "Just viewed your ad on Gumtree. is it still available? What's the final asking price? Kindly reply me direct to my email: raymondg2008 (at) gmail.com. I realised that the person is not working alone, but with someone else who is using email@example.com email address.

I had this email and also one from a David Edmond (firstname.lastname@example.org). Both texted my mobile first asking me to email them back. Same messages as everyone else here is posting about. Does anyone know how they are trying to scam us? Unfortunately I did email them back, first from my phone and then from a computer and now I'm a bit worried about what info they may have. My emails to them were just me asking them which item they were wanting to buy from me. I never gave them any personal details such as address, bank account # or paypal account details

Just beware - this guy is a scam. Plenty of them out there. He responded to an add on gumtree.com.au asking for condition and firm price of vehicle. I replied asking which listing he was referring to and he sent one back suggesting I send him all of my listings.
