There are a couple of different approaches to their initial contact. One is a website proposal and the other is brief “project question and do you accept credit cards†…and you may or may not get the ‘hearing impaired’ pitch. It’s an overpayment scam where the scammer pays more than he’s supposed to, as much as double or triple, then asks you to reimburse the difference. Since it can take weeks for his payment to clear your bank, in the meantime you’re sending payment for the difference, while his payment is being denied by all the banks it’s passed through, and now he has your money for the “overpaymentâ€. His payment bounces, you get hit with fees, and at the worst, you could end up being investigated for being part of illegal activities!
