1 |  +7 Kapo Project Gumtree I thought that the response to my ad on Gumtree sounded a bit suspect. I searched for details on the Kapo project and see that the same story has been used in other scams but under a different name. |

This scammer sent an email wanting to buy an item I had for sale on gumtree. She sent lots of detail about why she couldn't be there to pick up item because she was working in New Zealand. She even said how many hours she worked. This obviously sounded dodgy. She asked for paypal or bank account details. I then googled her email address and found lots of links to similiar stories about how the emails all sound legitimate (or do they?) and then she starts asking for more details and money to get the item. I'm so annoyed. It was an expensive item that I had hoped to sell and this person has wasted my time! :(

We do not have access to phone at the moment,its 5days off and 25days on,which is why I contacted you with internet messaging facility. Where is it located at the moment?
I am buying it for my for my holiday and i want it delivered before my arrival.I won't be able to come for the inspection due to the nature of my work and i would have called but our calling is restricted.Regarding the payment,pls get back to me with your final asking price and your paypal details so i can process the payment,you can alternatively send your bsb and acct number if you have no paypal acct.I have also contacted my courier who will come for pick up after the whole fund has been cleared into your acct.

Scam EmailI was selling a sofa on Gumtree and she sent me message to ask if it was still available and then asked for my
'E-MMaill" address ! (sounded suss right from the start) - however i sent my email address (and my phone number) - but now regretting it. 'she' immediately replied with the bog standard reply that i have now found out 'she' has used before:-

It all sounded dodgy to me, so put her email address into google and found this site straight away, so i have emailed 'her' back and told her i know 'she' is a scammer and not to contact me again !

Following up this thread, I listed a sofa on GumTree and "Theresa" reached out immediately using an identical email the ones flagged by other users. Her story seemed fishy so I checked her online and I came across this thread. I just got another email from here saying she wants to purchase my $1200 sofa and she's waiting on my PayPal details.

After posting furniture items on gumtree ,
I get a text
“Is the Furniture items on Gumtree still available for sale? kindly reply to (bentheresa1234@hotmail.com) plz no text.”
Then I email to the address and

Then I think it’s fishy and ask for a proof of ID she actually sends me

"Theresa" wanted to buy all the furniture items I had listed, sight unseen for $4,500 for her holiday home: 2x QB and mattress + fridge/freezer.....When I said that this was too good to be true and I needed some more information she sent me a photo of her passport. Shows her name and face and Australian citizen. I rang the CBA to see if I could arrange a totally safe money transfer and they said that providing BSB and account details was secure. I still felt uncomfortable so didn't go ahead. When I asked about the next step once I received payment (she was going to arrange a courier) the conversation stopped. Can someone tell me what she is after? How does whatever she is doing work?

States working off NZ on oilrig. Wants to buy items of furniture Gumtree. BUT, she needs money sent to organize courier and she has no access to money. I need to pay via Western Union and PayPal and there is a statement from PayPal showing me there is money waiting to go into my bank account. ($950) But just before it's finalized, she emails another request for Insurance ($1600) and she would refund me a grand total of about $$3800). Confirmed by PayPal that the paperwork with their Insignia is fake. I have informed them about that and have sent the pictures to the fraud section. Also reported to Western Union their fraud section. Have also reported it to Police. It would be a good idea if everyone scammed by this bitch (maybe a male as well) report the incident to Police. I have kept every bit of communication with her as Police want to examine them. They have a whole task force do deal with these sorts lowlife. She can be quite hostile, pushy and entire focus is on money. When I wrote her that I was unable to get the further $1600. She wanted me to get it off family, friends and ask my credit card bank to increase my limit, I should have savings so I must use that. Give me 5 minutes with this thief. I'm going to lay charges of stealing. Feel so stupid, vulnerable, angry and depressed.

Stated she was interested in my ad, worked for an Australian/ New Zealand Oil company and due to her 5 days off 25 days on and nature of the work she is unable to attend to grow.
Requested PayPal or bab and account details.
